What Can Get Your GenAI App Rejected

If you're building a GenAI app — face swap, text-to-image, image-to-video, or anything that generates content on the fly — you're under more scrutiny than a typical app. Here are the four mistakes that account for most of the rejections and suspensions I've seen.

1. Login walls and paywalls

This is the single most frequent reason GenAI apps get rejected. When you submit an app with features like face swap, text-to-image, or image-to-video, you need to provide full access to those features during review. Don't hide them behind a login wall or a paywall if you want to avoid rejection.

The reason is straightforward: content moderators need full access to every feature to check it against the rest of the policies below. If a feature is locked, they can't verify it — and an unverifiable feature is treated as a problem on its own, before anything else is even evaluated.

2. Sexual content in generated output

Make sure your app doesn't generate sexual content, even unintentionally. This is treated as a major violation and can get your app suspended — which affects your entire developer account, not just the one listing.

If you don't want to risk a suspension, spend real time testing with a wide range of prompts before submission. Generative models can produce unexpected output at the edges of what you tested — the cost of skipping this step is disproportionately high compared to the time it takes to do properly.

3. Broken functionality

It matters just as much that your app is well built and every advertised feature actually works. If your listing promises several content-generation features and even one of them doesn't work reliably, your app can be rejected or warned.

Test every feature you list end-to-end before submitting, not just the ones you're already confident about. A single broken feature undermines the whole submission, even when the rest of the app works well.

Worth remembering

If a reviewer can't access it, can't trust it, or can't rely on it working — treat that as a rejection risk before you submit, not after.

4. Face swap, sexualized hugging and kissing

Features that generate face swaps combined with sexualized hugging or kissing are one of the fastest ways to a suspension for a major violation. This overlaps with the sexual content risk above, but it's specific enough to call out on its own — face-swap features are scrutinized particularly closely because of how easily they can be used to produce content involving real people without consent.

Avoid sexual and intimate content in your app's generation capabilities entirely, and your app has a much better chance of staying live long-term.

FAQ
Can I put my GenAI app's features behind a paywall?

Locking core features behind a paywall is one of the most common reasons GenAI apps get rejected. Reviewers need full access to test every feature — if something is hidden behind a payment, it can't be verified against other policies, which triggers a rejection on its own.

What happens if my app generates sexual content, even unintentionally?

This is treated as a major violation and can get your app suspended, which affects your developer account beyond just that one app. Test extensively with different prompts before submitting.

Does broken functionality really cause rejections for GenAI apps?

Yes. If your listing promises specific generation features and even one doesn't work reliably, the app can be rejected or warned. Test every advertised feature end-to-end before submission.
